Another Take on the Dishonest Manager
It is no secret, brothers and sisters, that yesterday’s Gospel passage was a difficult one to read, digest, preach upon, and teach to children. I think all of us who read it, heard it, or otherwise engaged it yesterday scratched our heads a bit and wondered. You heard me wrestle with it from the pulpit and in the end, at best, take it on with a glancing blow.
Today, I listened online to a sermon from a former colleague of mine who preached upon this text. In her sermon, the Rev. Deacon Mary Alice López explains this parable in a way that is full of grace, love, integrity, majesty, and forgiveness. It is the kind of sermon that I wish I could write sometimes and I commend it to your hearing.

Bless me Father for I have sinned. I was fishing while you were preaching. But Julie said you rocked!

“It is better to go fishing and think about God than to go to Church and think about fishing.”
