October 21, 2010

The Old Testament Scriptures

Joel 2: 23 – 32 –  In which the prophet Joel gives Gods promises to the people of Israel that concern the coming time of plenty and good fortune, following the times of want and destruction.  It concludes with a wonderfully inclusive vision of the spirit of God being poured out on all people.

Psalm 65 –  In which the psalmist composes about God’s dominion over all creation, for which He is worthy of all praise.

The New Testament Scriptures

2 Timothy 4: 6 – 8, 16 – 18 –  In which Paul instructs Timothy that Paul’s time on this earth is almost finished and that he is looking forward to receiving his reward from God.

Luke 18: 9 – 14 –  In which Jesus tells a parable about humility, warning his listeners not to trust in themselves and their own righteousness, but only in God.
